The Philippine Australian Medical Association (PAMA) travelled back in time to the Medieval ages to celebrate their 33rd Anniversary in style.  And the Doctors stripped off their white coasts and along with their guests donned the most spectacular ancient garbs.  The PAMA annual charity event was held last 23 March, 2023 at Hudson Hotel at Seven Hills.

Dr. Belinda Lorenzo, PAMA president welcomed guests, Philippine Consul Sheila Marie Tario  who praised the organisation for their generosity and consistent medical missions; and Father Domingo “Meng” Barawid MI of CADIS Australia who supported their last medical mission to the Philippines.

Dressed in an ancient monk’s’outfit, Dr. Roger Fabian, PAMA’s Medical Mission Director spoke of PAMA’s medical missions to remote &  poverty stricken places in the Philippines for the last 15 years that saw them provide assistance  to over 26,000 patients. This latest Medical & Dental mission to Sasmuan, Pampanga saw the PAMA medical team service 1,736 patients – (medical – 449, dental 523 and 764 optical).  It was supported by CADIS Australia, Sta. Lucia Parish and Aguman Capampangan Australia.

“We bring not only medicine, but hope. Not only healing, but dignity. Not only care, but love.” said Dr. Belinda Lorenzo.  Next year’s target destination is Tandag, Surigao del Sur.

A special tribute honouring PAMA founder, Dr. Corazon Francisco who crossed to the world beyond this year was given, for her unwavering support and dedication to PAMA.

In addition to being a fund raising event, it is also a time to have a break from their hectic schedule. And the Doctors did not disappoint with performances which included – the Volunteer Nurses, the UP Alumni Association & Friends and last but not least, the Doctors who came out swinging to the tune of “Dancing Queen.”  The lively renaissance night was hosted by Dr. Merlie Gallardo along with Brian Lorenz.

Most admirable is the fact that funds raised go towards PAMA’s medical missions and medical supplies.  The doctors, health care professionals and volunteers all incur their own travel expenses.

PAMA President, Dr. Belinda Lorenzo stayed in theme as she extended her message of gratitude: “ We extend our deepest gratitude to  our noble guests who dist attend our Medieval theme fundraising dinner Dance! Thy merriments, fine garb and generous spirits brought great joy and awareness to our noble cause. T’was night of revelry, fellowship and purpose made by each and everyone of thee.”

“ We pray we shall gather again next year for more mirth and merriment . Until then, fare thee well and thank ye kindly!”  she added.

PAMA also provides lectures and medical updates for medical and health care professionals throughout the year.
