Wanted: Outstanding Filipino Australians

Do you know of any Filipino-Australian who has contributed much to the betterment of the Filipino community in Australia?  Would you know of any outstanding Filipino-Australian who has achieved beyond their wildest dreams?  The Filipino Communities Council of Australia (FILCCA) want them!

FILCCA, the national body of Filipinos in Australia, confers upon outstanding individuals and organizations with exemplary achievements the FILCCA awards in recognition of their contribution to the Filipino and Australian Communities.

The biennial awards was started in 2000 and now includes a list of deserving, inspirational individuals and associations who are worthy of respect and emulation.  The awards are presented during the Bi-annual Conference Gala Night which for 2016 is scheduled on 27-28 October at City Golf Club at Toowoomba, Queensland.

Winners will join the ranks of Kate Ceberano, Ignatius Jones (last year’s Filipino-Australian awardee), Ding Roces and many others and will be duly recognized for their outstanding achievements and for being an inspiration to Filipinos.

 

 

 

Nominations are now being accepted for:

  • Filipino-Australian of the Year Award (Major Award)
  • Filipino-Australian Achiever Award
  • Leadership Award
  • Youth Achievement Award
  • Outstanding Community Organisation Award

Please check below for the essential criteria. 

GENERAL CRITERIA:

 Individuals must:

  • Be a permanent resident or Australian citizen of Filipino descent;
  • Be of good moral standing in the community;
  • Have no bankruptcy attached to their name;
  • Have no criminal conviction with one year or more period of imprisonment;
  • May or not may not be a member of the State council of their area.

Organisations must:

  • Be duly registered and operating for at least three (3) years;
  • May or may not be members of the State council.

FILIPINO-AUSTRALIAN OF THE YEAR

   This Award is given to an outstanding individual, with exceptional qualities who:

  • Has met the general criteria;
  • Is an inspiration;
  • Has demonstrated extraordinary achievements, above and beyond their normal job or call of duty;

(Individuals of this caliber usually have achievements that include words like:  “first”, “only”, “pioneer”, “outstanding” etc.)

  • Has contributed greatly on the Filipino and/or the Australian community;
  • Has made a lasting impact on the Filipino-Australian community.

FILIPINO AUSTRALIAN ACHIEVER AWARD

This award is given to an individual who:

  • Has met the general criteria;
  • Has achieved in any area or field of endeavour as a professional, a worker, and/or as a community volunteer;
  • Has made a significant impact to the Filipino-Australian community in Australia or the Philippines.
  • Has promoted Philippine culture and heritage
  • Has made outstanding contribution to the betterment of Australia/Philippines
  • Has contributed to the upliftment of the image of Filipinos in Australia
  • Has contributed continuously and consistently for at least three (3) years prior to nomination.

 

LEADERSHIP AWARD

This Award is given to an individual who:

  • Has met the general criteria;
  • Has demonstrated outstanding leadership skills through an organization or through a project.
  • May or may not be the head (President or Chairperson) of an association.
  • Has initiated, implemented and/or supported a specific project that benefited the Filipino-Australian Community.
  • Has had community involvement of more than 3 years.

YOUTH AWARD

This Award is given to an individual who:

  • Has met the general criteria;
  • Is under the age of 30 years old;
  • Has achieved in any area or field of endeavour as a professional, a worker, and/or a community volunteer;
  • Must have performed as a leader and such performance recognised by the members of the

association and the Filipino-Australian community;

  • Has completed a project that has made a difference and has impacted the Filipino-Australian community;
  • Has uplifted the image of Filipinos in Australia.

 OUTSTANDING FILIPINO ORGANISATION OF THE YEAR

  This Award is given to an organization or an association who:

  • Is a duly registered organization, operating in Australia for a minimum of three (3) years;
  • May or may not be an affiliate member of the State Council.
  • Has contributed positively to the upliftment of the image and betterment of the Filipino-Australian community and/or Must have contributed to the betterment of the Philippines.
  • Has had a project which has had a lasting impact and significance on the Filipino community in Australia and/or the Philippines.

SUBMISSIONS MUST INCLUDE:

  • The official nomination form
  • a summary of the Nominee (no more than 2000 words)
  • Evidence/support documents
  • Academic achievements, if applicable.
  • General Achievements.
  • Degree of difficulty and sacrifices made.
  • Contributions and benefits to the Filipino community in Australia.
  • Contributions and benefits to the Australian Society.
  • Provide evidentiary support documents, i.e.
    • Copies of certificates, awards, etc,
    • Press clippings
    • Letters of recommendation
    • Any other relevant material

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY:

  • Current members of the FILCCA Executive (elected Office Bearers) are now eligible for the awards.
  • It is the nominator’s responsibility to ensure that all documentary evidence is included in the nomination.
  • No correspondence will be entered into following the decision of the panel, which is final.
  • Non-affiliate members may submit nominations but must still be endorsed by the State Council.
  • Only original applications will be accepted.
