Kapitbahayan Under Investigation

January 26th, 2011 · No Comments

A complaint has been lodged with the Common Equity of NSW against the Kapitbahayan Cooperative as managed by Ruben Amores.

The complainant alleges unfair management practices and preferential treatment in the selection of its tenants especially for the Common Equity’s new properties at Merrylands and Leumeah.

At a time when housing is at a crisis level and difficult to obtain, with deserving housing applicants on the housing queue from 10 to15 years, it is alleged that Amores of Kapitbahayan handed housing to those already with houses and to those who were  gainfully employed.  Some have obtained two-bedrooms when they would be entitled to only one; and some have been given properties when they should not have been given.  The new tenants only had to wait less than a year and majority were given houses within a week.

The complainant further alleges that the information was not disseminated properly to the community and selection process was based on “who you know” (the kakilala system).

The complainant did apply as a friend had notified them but their application was rejected.  However, formal notification in writing was given.

“The allegations are very serious and will be investigated further,” said Common Equity CEO, Mr. Ian Sinnett.
