Luzon Goes Under Water

September 29th, 2009 · No Comments

Typhoon Ondoy passed through the Philippines leaving a devastation that hasn’t been seen in 40 years.  Torrential rains left Metro Manila and its surrounding regions submerged under water.

Cainta, Marikina, Taytay, Laguna and areas in the Calabarzon were ravage stricken. Many commuters were stranded on the roads.  Some luckier ones were stuck on the bus reaching their destinations, only 12 hours later, without food or respite.

Over 240 people have been declared dead and thousands are still missing.  Churches, basketball courts, and gymnasiums have been turned into relief stations.  Sadly, the historical Rizal Memorial has gone underwater and will take a while to repair.

The Philippine Government has declared a state of national calamity and are imploring for immediate assistance.
